5 Great YouTube Channels by Students for College Prep

We spend hours on YouTube, so why not throw in some helpful college prep videos into the mix? Here are five awesome channels run by female college students.

We’re spending a lot of time on YouTube these days—85% of teen boys and 70% of teen girls in the US (ages 13–17) use YouTube daily, with an average of 40 minutes per viewing session. It’s all too easy to blow this time watching bedroom-pop covers of your favorite songs or the latest celebrity interviews. Why not work on filling your YouTube recommended list with helpful, productive videos that will aid you in your college prep process instead? Here are some of my favorite YouTube channels for college prep that are all run by female college students, listed in no particular order.

1. Aimee

Although Aimee’s channel didn’t start out with much school-related content, she switched her focus to academics following her acceptance to Yale University. With everything from vlogs to portfolio tips to general college advice, her channel has something for everyone. She also has a lighthearted, ongoing series in which she walks around Yale’s campus and interviews students she happens to run into. Aimee drops a new video every Saturday at 11:00 am ET.

2. Riley Rehl

Riley Rehl, a sophomore at Southern Virginia University, has been using YouTube to document her life journey (both educational and otherwise) since 2015. She makes no attempt to sugarcoat her college experience but is quick to point out the lessons to be learned from any given situation. Unlike some of the other channels on this list, Riley’s emphasizes the importance of not taking yourself too seriously. Even so, she can still serve up a realistic example of what you might expect going forward in your college prep process, and she posts new videos every Friday.

3. Tan Yi

Have you ever wished you could have an on-demand study buddy from the comfort of your own home? If so, Tan Yi’s channel is the perfect online getaway for you. Tan Yi is known for her soundtracked, real-time, and often themed study sessions, which she uploads regularly for anyone in the market for a couple hours of productive abandon. And that’s not all her channel has to offer—as a student at Yale University (the second Bulldog on this list), Tan Yi also makes videos about SAT prep, her experience on campus, and other helpful college tips.

4. studyquill

Jasmine is a sophomore at the University of California, Los Angeles with over a million YouTube subscribers, making her channel, studyquill, the most popular one on this list. After watching a handful of her videos, it’s not hard to see why. Jasmine’s channel has everything you could possibly want from a college prep account: study tips, dorm decorating and packing advice, self-care tips, financial hacks, product reviews, vlogs, and more! If you’re looking for a single, quality channel to follow for all kinds of academic help, this is the one for you.

5. haley kang

A sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania, Haley is the resident comedian of college prep YouTube. She’s a self-declared procrastinator and hands-down the most relatable student on this list. Many of the videos on her channel, haley kang, feel like advice from an older sister, as she lets us in on her mistakes so we can (hopefully) avoid them ourselves. She also has a hefty number of videos centering around the Common App essay, which is a niche not many other channels touch on. All in all, Haley is a great resource for learning how to realistically achieve your academic goals.

High School Class of 2023

Being a sophomore in high school, I never really worried about college. I thought it wasn't important to worry about until senior year. Through this program opportunity I came across, I realized how important it is to start looking at colleges early and start planning ahead. CollegeXpress has opened my eyes to what colleges require, what colleges are near me, and what they offer. The daily emails I get from CollegeXpress really help me look at the different options I have and what colleges I fit into. Without this website, I would not be taking the time out of my day to worry about what my future will be nor what opportunities I have. I could not be more grateful for such an amazing and useful website. It's thanks to CollegeXpress that not only me but my family now know how much potential I have in to getting into these colleges/universities that we thought were out of my reach.

CollegeXpress has tremendously helped me in my search for financial aid opportunities as I enter my college career. It is easy to navigate and quickly narrowed down scholarships that I could apply for. Being awarded the scholarship will greatly help me in my finances regarding books and tuition. Thank you for this opportunity. Without CollegeXpress, it would have been more difficult to apply. I would recommend this site to everyone!

I joined CollegeXpress just a few months ago. I had been struggling with severe anxiety, causing me to not be able to tour schools and make sure a college would be perfect for me. I came across CollegeXpress one day when I was searching for colleges online, and it completely changed the game. I was easily able to choose colleges that would suit me, and I also entered a few giveaways! Thank you so much!

CollegeXpress helped me narrow my school choices down from 10 schools to four and then two. It also gave me information on a school I had never heard about or thought about attending until now, which is the school I will be attending in the fall. I am thankful for CollegeXpress and its helpful tools.
